Is coconut considered a tree nut?

After fighting my cravings for cupcakes I finally gave in this afternoon - I started making coconut cupcakes (vegan)...they are delicious!   I top them off with chocolate buttercream icing - I had that leftover from when I made the cupcakes for the babies a couple of days ago.  I'll take them to church tomorrow but now I regret not making more....not sure if there is enough for the folks at the missions committee meeting tomorrow!!!

So, is coconut a nut?  Not sure.  I wanted to give some to Samuel since he decided to not nap today - but I am too afraid to try.  I think it's not but does anyone know?
